Presenters:
Darlene Kascak Educational Outreach Ambassador, Schaghticoke Tribal Nation Institute of American Indian Studies, Washington, CT Darlene Kascak will guide the discussion on humanity’s relationship with the land and how Two‑Eyed Seeing can inspire positive change in daily life.
Etuaptmumk: Two‑Eyed Seeing is a Mi’kmaw teaching developed by Elder Albert Marshall that invites us to see the world with one eye through Indigenous Knowledge and with the other through Western ways of knowing. When used together, these perspectives offer a fuller, more balanced understanding of creation and our responsibility to care for it. Through a power point presentation and using hands-on artifacts this interactive presentation will explore how these ways of knowing can complement one another, fostering respect, collaboration, and shared wisdom.
Samuel DeCaprio Cellist, Chamber Musician, Founder Arazzo Music Festival, Doctor of Musical Arts, The Juilliard School This musical program offers a contemplative musical reflection on the themes of indigenous wisdom and living in harmony with creation. The repertoire seeks to bridge the sacred and the natural world, beginning with the profound resonance of J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 and Camille Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan.” These foundational works will be played alongside hymns and spirituals, including “Amazing Grace,” “Simple Gifts,” and “This is My Father’s World,” providing a familiar and prayerful atmosphere for the listeners. By blending traditional liturgy with modern expressions of praise, this program aims to foster connection and gratitude for the creation we share.
