Every night there are people in Waterbury who are hungry and sleep in tents, vacant building, cars and trucks. These are not avid campers who enjoy the great outdoors. There are dozens of people who have nowhere else to go. They are outdoors 24/7 12 months a year no matter the weather conditions.
The Homeless Outreach Ministry is part of the Brian Gibbon’s Foundation. Our Mission Statement is: To locate, engage and support the homeless and nearly homeless people in Waterbury and to link them to appropriate resources. We provide case management and support services to people living outside or recently housed. Visits are made to campsites, factories and abandoned buildings several times a week and more frequently in the bitter cold and snowy days of the winter months. We provide food, warm clothing, hygiene products, camping equipment and most importantly HOPE. We try to make people comfortable as possible while we work with them to rejoin the community.
How Can You Help?
Financial donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church Homeless Outreach. This enables us to provide essential items for those in need. Donation of gift cards to McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Walmart, Waterbury bus passes, socks and personal hygiene products are also needed and appreciated.
