Altar Servers

Home  /  Altar Servers

Since the inception Christian worship, it has been an esteemed tradition for members of the parish – especially young people – to assist the Priest at the altar. Here in our parish we have many opportunities to serve, both during the Sacrifice of the Mass and during other liturgical services like Adoration.

This is a blessing in myriad ways – not only do those who serve at the altar help the Priest conduct the practicalities of the liturgy, the servers themselves get to learn even more deeply the conduct of the Mass and experience the Holy Sacrifice in a most special way.

Although stereotypically a role for young people, servers can be of any age – men, women, boys, and girls – so long as they have received their first communion and completed Altar Server Training.

If you or your child is interested in serving at the altar in either Middlebury or Southbury, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Parish Office so we can discuss further!

From a distance the role of the server might look intimidating, after a little learning and practice it becomes a lot less scary!
