Today at all Masses Father Philip Sharkey, Administrator, read an announcement, provided by Monsignor James A. Shanley, Vicar General & Moderator of the Curia, that Archbishop Christopher J. Coyne has appointed Rev. Jaime Maldonado-Aviles as *Administrator of Midd-South Catholic Parish, the Roman Catholic Parish of Middlebury and Southbury, effective June 12, 2024. Fr. Maldonado was ordained in 2020, is 45 years old, and most recently was Parochial Vicar of St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish in Manchester, where they are in the midst of “Rebuilt and have recently completed a feasibility study to merge multiple churches and parishes into one and build a new church to serve all.”

He attended seminary at Theological College at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. receiving a STB/M. Divinity dual degree. That followed his receiving a PH. D. in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh and a Fellowship at Yale University. It was in New Haven that Fr. Maldonado seriously discerned his vocation to the priesthood.

We warmly welcome Father Maldonado-Aviles to our parish, offer our prayers, support and wish him continued blessings in his ministry and pastoral leadership!

*Priests are first assigned as “Administrator” of a parish and then a year or so later, after consultation among the parishioners and staff by the Vicar for Clergy are named as “Pastor” for a six year term.
